Shruti Rana
Shruti (she/her) is an international lawyer with a broad range of leadership and other experience in human rights, legal practice, and community organizations. She is currently a professor and assistant dean at Indiana University Bloomington. Before moving to Indiana, she served as Of Counsel at a mid-size law firm, where she helped grow the firm’s international law practice, and was a Social Affairs Officer at the United Nations, where she worked on international women’s human rights issues and treaties. She was also a professor at the University of Maryland Law School, where she co-developed the school’s international law clinic, and has worked at law firms in Washington, DC and San Francisco, CA. Shruti is deeply involved in the Bloomington community and has served on the boards of Monroe County NOW and the Indiana Chapter of the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, where she was also a founding member. She has also served on the City of Bloomington Board of Public Safety and City of Bloomington on Commission on the Status of Women, was also recently appointed to the Monroe County Election Board. Shruti is passionate about reproductive justice in the U.S. and globally, and has testified before lawmakers in Indiana and New York on women’s rights and reproductive health legislation. She has also written a number of research and other articles on international law, human rights, and immigration and refugee law issues.
